OUR STORY

Churchview Estate gets its name from the heritage listed St Johns Anglican Church which can be seen from the tasting room. This little church would have been the focus of the community in the early days, and it would have seen quite a few Group Settlement weddings.

In much earlier days the old farm at Churchview was home to Group Settlers when the land was first opened up to white settlement in the early 1920s. The aim of the Group Settlement Scheme, was to establish a dairy industry in the South West to supply the growing population of Perth. The Great Depression descended soon after the start of the scheme, adding to the hardships faced by the settlers, and many eventually walked off their land. However, much of today’s cleared farmland is the result of their labour.

In 1999, father and son, Spike and Raymond Fokkema, established Church view and built it up from the ground. The property was selected for its ideal and fertile gravelly loam soils, ample clean water and north facing slopes. The 100ha estate has over the early years, accumulated a total of 56ha of vines, growing 16 different varieties.

Churchview pride themselves on cultivating, crafting and cherishing the land, the grapes and the wines. As stewards of the land, Churchview has worked hard to transform the conventionally operated farm, to a fully organically operated vineyard. After 15 years Churchview gained the certification in 2020.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Churchview pride themselves on cultivating, crafting and cherishing the land, the grapes and the wine.

CULTIVATED

To cultivate is to prepare and use land for crops. It is a well-known fact that the creation of a great bottle of wine starts in the vineyard, indicating the purity and quality of the fruit will dictate the purity and quality of the wine. Churchview has worked hard over the past 20 years to convert the vineyard from a full conventional to an organically operated vineyard. Our philosophy behind the cultivation of our vines is simple, treating the environment with respect and maintaining healthy soils and vines with organic principals will ensure pure, quality fruit.

CRAFTED

To craft is to make or produce with care, skill and integrity.Winemaking or vinification is both an art and science to which the skills required by the winemaker arguably amount to craftsmanship.

This special ability to craft the wine warrants that every single bottle produced is a reflection of the site and speaksabout the vintage, the climate and the array of flavour profiles each season brings. It’s the difference in vintage that makes winemaking an art and the ability to bring these flavours to you that makes wine so interesting. The fruit supplied and the winemakers imprint determines quality, identity and style. At Churchview we aim to make the best possible wine we can, and make that affordable to you.

CHERISHED

To cherish is to keep or cultivate with care and affection.

Wine is more than a beverage, it has a long and rich heritage in many cultures. Today wine is available to most of us and is easily obtained. As wine enthusiasts we want to share our products with other wine enthusiasts.

We want our wines to mark an occasion for you to cherish. It could be a daily glass with your evening meal, a bottle shared over a romantic dinner, or wine with a family feast. We encourage responsible consumption and good guide is to always choose quality that you can cherish, over quantity.

TSANTALI

A long-standing family tradition

The Tsantali family is among the oldest wine families in Greece.

This remarkable story of 125-years captures signicant milestones of the Greek history and cherishes the will power of the human spirit. Through an adventurous route starting with the migration from homeland in early 20th century and the relocation in Serres and later on in Thessaloniki, today the Tsantali family carries on the family heritage rendering TSANTALI the major ambassador of Wines and Distillates from Greece around the globe.

The Tsantali family has been once more featured in the prestigious MEININGER Families of Wine 2015-2016 Edition, dedicated to 59 wine families from all over the world.

A vineyard is a field of choices

And that is what it all comes down to. For us in TSANTALI safeguarding our 125-year-old tradition as a family company with worldwide projection remains the core of our philosophy.

Sincerity, responsibility and respect towards our consumers, our industry and our people are the key elements of our everyday conduct. We want to be present, eager to support the local communities, preserve the environment, promote the authenticity of the Greek viticulture and stand out as a pioneer of entrepreneurship.

Roots are one’s compass in life

It was in 1890 in the northeastern of Greece when the Tsantali family first started cultivating vineyards and making wine and traditional Greek distillates (ouzo and tsipouro).

The insight and instinct of Evangelos Tsantalis led to the development of all infrastructures according to an extrovert-oriented strategy of no prior for the time (1940s). Moreover, thanks to his profound passion for the local terroirs, some of the most unique Greek vineyards were revived.
